FM Environmental recently presented their sponsored award at the Sentinus Young Innovators Event which was held in the Oddessy, Belfast……..
The winners of the FM Environmental Award, awarded to the most creative engineering solution for an environmental problem, were Caoimhe McNamara and Alexandra McConnell-Walshe from Sutton Park School.
Their Project:
Recycling Cardboard to Make Biofuel - They used enzyme digestion of cellulose in cardboard to make sugar (glucose) followed by yeast fermentation to make alcohol.
The guest speaker at the event was Polar Explorer Robert Swan who is the first person to have walked to both the North and South Poles. Robert is a committed environmentalist who still leads expeditions to the Antarctic.
