| SUBMERGED AERATED MEDIA PLANTS (BioSAM) |
FM Environmental’s Submerged Aerated Media (BioSAM) plants are used for small to medium sized applications. Common applications include housing developments, office and commercial sites and hotel and restaurant sites. The SAM plants are modular arrangements using either GRP or concrete tanks. The use of treatment modules allows for a flexible design approach which facilitates custom solutions for individual sites. This allows the optimisation of plant selection to ensure good process engineering.
The SAM System is a three stage purification process employing the aerobic biological treatment principle. The system is typically ideal for the treatment of domestic sewage from housing schemes, hotels, restaurants and caravan parks. Low maintenance requirements and power consumption enable the system installation to provide a cost effective answer to the environmental pollution problems.

The SAM System consists of three stages providing primary settlement, biological treatment and final settlement. The tanks in each stage are suitably sized and baffled to promote good flow balancing, settlement of solids and a sludge holding capacity. Each tank is constructed from either concrete or GRP and ready for installation on client's prepared foundations. Besides being suitable for standard installations, such plants can also be suitable for locations with high or variable groundwater levels, as well as where the plants are required for temporary installation or when installed above ground.
Stage 1 - Primary Settlement The primary tank receives the raw sewage. Both organic and inorganic solid are settled. The tank also receives the humus sludge from the final settlement tank.
Stage 2 - Secondary Treatment Is used for secondary treatment using submerged media and diffused aeration.
Stage 3 - Final Settlement Separation of humus sludge from treated effluent is carried out in this stage. The accumulation of sludge is controlled by pumping it back to the primary tank for storage, thus reducing the need for plant desludging to three to four time per year. |
